In 1974 Siding Spring Observatory, perched on top of Mount Worrut in the Warrumbungle Ranges, became Australia's National Optical Telescope Facility. In the decades that have passed the observatory, which is home to more than 27 telescopes, has punched way above its weight leaders on the path for scientific exploration, astronomical discoveries and technology advancements. There are walkings tours available to get you inside the big telescope and along the ridgetop to whet your astronomical appetite, and a cafe to satisfy your belly. Avoid disappointment by booking your meals and tours in advance. Open
